Significant drug bust in Utah County lands one person in jail

OREM, Utah — The Utah County Sheriff’s Office made a significant drug bust Monday night, following a routine traffic stop.

According to a Utah County Sheriff’s Office press release, a deputy stopped a vehicle on the southbound ramp to I-15 at 1600 North in Orem.

As the deputy was talking to the driver, the deputy noticed evidence of drug use in the car, according to the press release.

The driver was asked to get out of the vehicle as deputies conducted a search. While searching a suitcase, an unknown form of powder blew into the face of a deputy, who immediately began to experience dizziness, according to the press release.

A short time later, the deputy experienced additional dizziness and breathing difficulties. The deputy was then transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released, according to the press release. Additionally, the press release also states the deputy is expected to make a full recovery.

Items found in the search

At the conclusion of the search of the vehicle, deputies found the following items: 9.6 pounds of methamphetamine; 4,357 grams, or 43,570 individual doses; 5,000 (roughly) blue pills made with fentanyl and are marked to look like OxycodoneIR30 pills. 

Additionally, deputies also found the following items in their search of the vehicle: one Xanax (Alprazolam) pill; 0.2 grams of cathinone.  

At the conclusion of the search, deputies took Tanya Tuttle Mize, 40, of Springville, into custody.

Mize was booked into the Utah County Jail under investigation for the following: distribution of controlled substance, a second-degree felony; possession of controlled substance in correctional facility, a third-degree felony; DUI, a class B misdemeanor; obstruction of justice, class A misdemeanor; possession of controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor; possession of controlled substance analog, class A misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, class B misdemeanor; Suspended driver license, class C misdemeanor and Fail to obey traffic control devices, infraction.

According to Utah County Sheriff’s Office, Mize is being held without bail.
