Republican caucus set for Tuesday night

SALT LAKE CITY — The deadline to file to run for elected office was last Friday. The next step in the 2022 election process is the Republican caucus that will be held Tuesday night.
During a caucus, individuals in the same political party gather in neighborhoods to decide on precinct leaders and delegates. Those delegates will eventually help decide who ends up on the primary ballot.
Those wishing to participate in Republican caucus must be a resident of Utah who lives in the precinct. Additionally, individuals wishing to participate must also be 18 years old by that year’s general election and must be a registered member of the party.
According to caucus rules, interested individuals may attend and observe a neighborhood caucus election. In order to attend those individuals must not commit a breach of decorum. If a breach of decorum is committed, the individual may be asked to leave by the precinct host.
Candidates are allowed, by Utah law, to gather signatures to get on the ballot.
The Democrat caucus will be held later this month on March 22.
The primary election will be June 28.
