SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Dale G. Renlund, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Baltimore Orioles game Monday night.

According to a church news release, the pitch was part of Latter-day Saints Night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore. A stake in the Baltimore area sponsors the annual event.

Elder Renlund served as a bishop for a Baltimore-area congregation during his time in medical school. He attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the 1980s. His wife, Ruth, who also attended the game, earned a law degree from University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.

Similar events have been held in the past at other Major League Baseball parks. Those events have been held Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles and Minute Maid Park in Houston.

After his pitch, Elder Renlund enjoyed the game, which saw Baltimore defeat Tampa Bay 5-1.
