Man taken into custody after standoff with SLC Police

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police, with the help of its SWAT team and crisis negotiators, successfully took a 41-year-old man into custody Tuesday afternoon after a nearly three-hour long standoff.
Police say the man barricaded himself inside a home after he allegedly assaulted another family member. Police were notified of a possible domestic violence incident at 1:30 p.m.
At the scene, law enforcement personnel were informed by the victim that there were multiple unsecured guns in the home.
According to a news release, police surrounded the house and made efforts to talk to the suspect, who has been identified as Maurice Raffoul. Just to be on the safe side, police asked people in the neighborhood to stay inside their homes.
Police say that Raffoul surrendered peacefully at roughly 4:20 p.m. He was not injured in the standoff with police. The victim is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries that occurred during the incident, police say.
During the investigation, police discovered that Raffoul had allegedly assaulted the victim over the past three days.
Raffoul has been booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on suspicion of three counts of domestic violence assault.
Police wouldn’t say what the specific relationship was between the two individuals.
