Salt Lake City Police say response times for August 2022 improved by nearly 15 minutes from August 2021. Salt Lake City Police Department

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department on Friday released a report of its response times for August 2022. The report shows the department’s average response time improved by nearly 15 minutes compared to this time last year.

According to a news release, response time is an area that Salt Lake City Police is trying to improve upon.

In order to have a higher probability of taking a suspect into custody and better public safety, responding faster to an incident is necessary.

“We continue to monitor response times,” said Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown in a news release. “This is one of several data points that help us make decisions about the use and deployment of resources. Despite an ever-increasing workload, our officers are getting to calls for service as fast and as safely as possible. This is a great example of the dedication each officer has while serving our community.”

According to the news release, the department’s average response times for August 2022 are as listed below (formatted in minutes and seconds):

  • Priority 1: 11:27, an improvement of 6:07 from 12 months ago.
  • Priority 2: 19:38, an improvement of 4:12 from August 2021.
  • Priority 3: 1:00.20, an improvement of 26:17 from this time last year.

The department reports the overall response time for all three levels was 40:33 for August 2022. It was an improvement of 14:59 from the previous year.
