SALT LAKE CITY — A Nuclear Reactor could be headed to Utah following a study by Pacificorp and Terrapower. Pacificorp is the parent company of Rocky Mountain Power, along with Terrapower, they’re interested in finding locations for five more of their Natrium Reactors.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesman David Eskelsen said, “Utah will be part of the joint study that will include the sites near existing power plants in Wyoming and Utah.”

Due to an already established transmission line, it’s easier to place new sites at existing locations, said Eskelsen. In other words, they want to keep it to where it’s feasible to put the plants.

Furthermore, the release said that congress and the Department of Energy under the Biden Administration have taken steps to support the development of nuclear technologies to reach carbon-free goals.

Gary Hoogeveen, president and CEO of Rocky Mountain Power said the study explores carbon-free energy resources that could provide reliable power to its customers.
