SPRINGDALE, Utah — With the change in season, an adjusted shuttle service schedule and campground availability have been announced at Zion National Park.

Park officials encourage visitors to plan ahead when they visit the park during the fall and winter months.

Shuttle service

During the fall season, personal vehicles can access Zion National Park beginning Monday, Nov. 28. Visitors are allowed to drive their vehicles on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, beginning on Monday. However, parking is limited, and visitors should plan accordingly.

According to a news release, when parking is full in Zion Canyon, the road may be temporarily closed by the National Park Service.

Park officials say the last day of the fall shuttle service into the park and into Springdale was Sunday.

Park officials say shuttle service will resume in Zion Canyon and Springdale for 10 days, beginning on Dec. 23. During those 10 days, personal vehicles will not be allowed on the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. The shuttle service will end on Jan. 1, 2023.

Once the 10-day shuttle service ends, personal vehicles will be allowed back on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive on Jan. 2, 2023. Again, parking is limited. So once the parking is full, the NSP may close the road.

Shuttle service will pick back up in the spring. The specific dates will be announced by the NPS after the first of the year.

Fall and winter camping

Watchman Campground is open 12-months a year. And reservations are being accepted up to six months in advance. To make a reservation, click here

Reservations are also being accepted over the phone by calling 877-444-6777. Park officials encourage visitors to plan ahead and have reservations made before arriving at the park.

The Lava Point Campground and the South Campground are now closed for the fall and winter months.

Other things to keep in mind

As you prepare for a trip to Zion, make sure you keep up to date with the latest information at the park.

Additionally, the park is in the process of completing a drainage improvement project in the area of the south entrance. Park officials stress patience to visitors entering or leaving from the south. Officials say during work, one lane into the park, and one lane out of the park will be open.
