Stephanie Berg, Heartland Elementary

“My son is in the Autism first grade class at Heartland. He had a hard time in the beginning of the year learning how to control his emotions. Mrs. Berg called me often to let me know what was going on and was so caring and kind with his difficult behaviors. She NEVER GAVE UP on him and after making a few changes with the help of her advocating for him, he is excelling at school like he has never done before! He is the happiest, silliest boy at school. He is learning how to communicate much better and all around developing so much better than he has before. Since my son is non-verbal, she takes the time no matter when or how long to let me know how his day was and to send me cute pictures on his day. My son has had many teachers, but Mrs. Berg has gone above and beyond with showing love and compassion for my son who learns a little different than neurotypical kids. All kids deserve the same chance and opportunity growing up and Mrs. Berg has given him that chance to grow and feel seen amongst his peers. I wish all students were lucky enough to have her as their teacher because she has truly made a difference on my son and he is making leaps and bounds because of her dedication and kindness.
