SALT LAKE CITY — Due to the recent snowstorms, the state snowpack continues to pile up.

And we’re still a month away from the state hitting its normal peak. The median peak is the first week in April.

And according to David Church, of the National Weather Service, there are more storms expected to arrive in the state between now and then.

“The areas that have already seen a lot of snow and have been very wet this winter and it looks like that pattern is going to continue,” he said.  “And then we look further ahead in time, this pattern looks like it kind of stays in place going all the way through to the end of the month.”

In the snowpack around the state there is currently 20 inches of snow-water equivalent. Meaning, that’s how much water is in the snow that has already fallen.

The current snowpack is on par with the water years of 1984, 1985 and 2011. The state also had a lot of snow going into those spring months. And that’s important for the state’s water needs throughout the entire year.
