Springdale, Utah — Long lines and heavy traffic are expected at Zion National Park this summer as they prepare for the busiest season of the year.

This year the Fourth of July falls on a Tuesday and Zion National Park superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh is planning for a busy weekend.

“On holiday weekends, we typically see more visitors than on other busy summer days. That’s why we’re partnering with the Town of Springdale to actively manage traffic. Together we will direct visitors to available parking so that everyone can enter the park efficiently,” said Bradybaugh.

Getting to Zion National Park

The National Park Service may temporarily suspend vehicle entry at the East and South entrances to reduce road congestion. Guests to the park can take advantage of the Springdale Line Shuttle services to avoid traffic inside the park.

Springdale’s Independence Day Parade will close State Route 9 making it difficult to enter the National Park, people wanting to enter the park on the 4th of July should consider using alternate routes such as:

  • Utah 20.
  • Utah 14.
  • US 89 – Arizona 389 – Utah 59.

For updates on road closures and suspended vehicle entry check the Zion webpage

In the park

Busy weekends can be stressful. To make sure that all guests have an enjoyable experience, please:

  • Be patient with rangers and others.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Only park in designated areas.
  • Pack it In — Pack it Out. Take everything you bring into the park out again.

We want to hear from you.
