Utah State Senator Jake Anderegg resigning, Utah GOP will hold special election

SALT LAKE CITY — Sen. Jake Anderegg, R-Salt Lake City, has announced he will resign from the Utah Senate. He has represented Senate District 22 since January 2013. His resignation takes effect on October 15, 2023.
Quoted in a press release from the Utah Senate, Anderegg said he’d spent months thinking about the move.
“It was not an easy decision to resign from the Legislature,” Anderegg said in the press release. “After months of contemplation, I determined it was needed to be able to focus on my career and provide for my family. My parents instilled a deep sense of patriotism in me, and I am grateful to the people of Senate District 22 for electing me to serve and represent them.”
Anderegg chairs the Social Services Appropriations Subcommittee. He said he would continue that role during interim hearings in September and October.
Senate President J. Stuart Adams said he would miss Anderegg.
“His commitment to serving those he was elected to represent is palatable,” Adams said in a press release. “He will be missed, and the Senate and Legislature will feel his absence.”
In the coming weeks, the Utah Republican Party will hold a special election to fill the vacancy in Senate District 22.
