SALT LAKE CITY — Within a week, three separate car accidents occurred in Salt Lake City, each accident involving pedestrians with serious injuries. Salt Lake City Police Department is now reminding the public about road safety, according to a SLCPD press release.

The press release says the first accident involved a man who was walking on a sidewalk, when a car crashed into him.

Police said the car was reported to have “briefly pinned” the man against a building.

The second accident included a man who crossed the road illegally when he was struck by a car, according to police.

The final accident occurred while a car was going through a green light, when a man on an e-bike crossed the road illegally, according to police.

All three pedestrians were reported to have been taken to the hospital, their injuries are reported to not be life threatening.

According to Utah Public Safety, there were 935 reported pedestrian involved crashes in 2022.

Eighteen percent of all fatal crashes in Utah that year were pedestrian involved.

SLCPD road safety tips

Road safety tips that were included in the press release include the following:

  • Look for and expect other road users at all times.
  • Use extra caution when using the road during inclement weather or darkness.
  • When approaching an intersection, always be prepared for someone unexpected to enter the road.
  • Never pass another vehicle at or near an intersection. The car nearby maybe slowing down for a person for whom you cannot see.
  • All road users should obey traffic control devices and the posted speed limit.
  • Ensure your vehicle’s headlights are turned on – even during the day – and they are in good working condition.
  • Road users should wear reflective clothing or have additional lighting to make their presence known.
