FARMINGTON– The Utah Department of Transportation is beginning construction on a project that will turn Shepard Lane into a new I-15 interchange.

Mitch Shaw, a UDOT spokesperson, told KSL NewsRadio that the project will bring more than just a freeway entrance. New roads will also be connected to Shepard Lane.

“It’s all…our effort to make our system as connected as possible and make people’s lives more convenient,” Shaw said.

Connecting Shepard Lane

UDOT is planning to take out the current Shepard Lane bridge over I-15, shifting the road to run directly to 950 North. However, it will still have a turnoff to continue onto Shepard Lane into Kaysville.

This setup, will not only give people more direct access to I-15, but also the West Davis Highway. It has a ramp at 950 North.

According to the project website, UDOT said it will also build a new road connecting Innovator Drive to the interchange.

Innovator Drive is currently still under construction. When completed, it will run from the interchange to Park Lane right next to the Harmon’s Fuel Station and restaurants like Jersey Mikes.

Another big part of the project is new pedestrian bridges, namely underneath Park Lane. Crews will also build a pedestrian underpass.

People are frequently spotted trying to cross Park Lane where there aren’t any sidewalks. Additionally, people are entering and exiting three of Northern Utah’s biggest freeways: I-15, Legacy Parkway, and U.S. 89.

The bridge will give people an actual safe way to cross that road.

“When you have a dedicated pedestrian facility, obviously that’s the safest way to do it,” Shaw said.

Shaw said the project has a price tag of $147.5 million. Construction is scheduled to last through the summer of 2026.
