SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Bureau of Land Management has extended its nomination deadline for open council positions. The BLM advisory council application deadline is now Nov. 20.

There are open positions on the following councils and committees:

  • Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Advisory Committee
  • Bears Ears National Monument Advisory Committee
  • San Rafael Swell Recreation Area Advisory Council
  • Utah Resource Advisory Council

The council application lists specific open positions.

The BLM said that advisory councils play an important role in the management of public lands. Oftentimes, they open the door to discussion between community members, BLM staff, and partners.

Additionally, council members work to make recommendations benefitting natural resources to land managers.

The council application said the Secretary of the Interior will appoint council members. Chosen candidates will have the opportunity to serve a three-year term.

Council positions are not salaried. However, participants will be reimbursed for travel and expenses “at current rates for government employees,” per the BLM.

BLM advisory council qualifications

According to the BLM, each candidate’s training, education, and geographical knowledge will be considered. Additionally, applicants must be Utah residents.

To be considered, applicants must submit reference letters, a resume, and “any other information that speaks to [their] qualifications,” along with their applications.

“Nominees should also demonstrate a commitment to consensus-building and collaborative decision-making,” read the press release.
