Davis County installs new air quality monitors

DAVIS COUNTY — Davis County residents have access to more accurate air quality data thanks to the installation of 24 air quality monitors.

Davis County Health Department spokesperson Trevor Warner says understanding the area’s unique geography is key.

“We kind of sit down in that bowl and so we’ve all seen the image of just an inversion layer stuck over the county and really bad air,” Warner said. “We thought that we needed to definitely do something about that.”

Over the past six months, monitors have been installed from Antelope Island to local refineries.

“Antelope Island State Park that houses part of the Great Salt Lake… we’ve got some of the gas refineries and oil refineries and we kind of sit down in that bowl,” Warner said. 

The TELLUS AirView monitors also provides more accurate real-time air quality data for residents.

“We’ll  have 24 monitors across the entire county and then [residents] go to our department website, where we’ve got an air quality map,” Warner said.

The map allows people to see what the air quality conditions are like around their neighborhood.
