Magnitute 3.4 earthquake shakes Garfield County overnight

SALT LAKE CITY — A magnitude 3.4 earthquake rattled southern Utah early Tuesday, shaking the Earth in Garfield County overnight.
Just before 3 a.m., the quake shook approximately 16.4 miles outside of Boulder, and about 19.3 miles outside of Escalante, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The epicenter was sandwiched between Capitol Reef National Park and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
The quake is considered a weak one by USGS standards, but its depth was seismically recorded at approximately 1.30 miles below the Earth’s surface.
By Tuesday morning at approximately 6 a.m., the USGS had a few reports from those in Boulder and Escalante who felt the shaking. Further information can be reported to USGS through an online survey.
