Injured hiker rescued from popular Zion National Park trail

SPRINGDALE, Washington County — An injured hiker was rescued from the Narrows in Zion National Park on Sunday by search and rescue crews, according to the Hurricane Fire Department.
The Narrows is among the most famous hikes in Zion National Park. The picturesque trail runs through a gorge with red walls that are thousands of feet high, where parts of the trail require walking in the Virgin River.
Hurricane fire said its crews responded to the call at around 9:30 a.m. The hiker was found about 1.5 miles upstream.
When rescue personnel arrived, the injured hiker was already being treated by other hikers who were health care professionals, fire officials said.

Although the injured hiker was stable, officials said they still could not walk out of the Narrows and had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter.
No details were given on the nature of their injury.
