SALT LAKE CITY — The family of a Utah mother and travel vlogger announced heartbreaking news late Wednesday after her fight for life came to an end in a Salt Lake City hospital.

Elise Caffee was badly burned in a crash on March 6 in Cancún, Mexico, where she and her husband were traveling to attend a wedding. She was treated immediately in Mexico before being flown back to Salt Lake City, where much of her family gathered to support her.

On Wednesday, sometime around 11 p.m., her family gave the devastating update.

“We are absolutely heartbroken to share the news of Elise’s passing tonight,” they wrote. “She held on so long and fought so hard against an impossibly difficult set of circumstances. Absolutely everything that could have been done for her was done and we are so grateful she was able to make it back home to say goodbye to her family before leaving us.”

Caffee leaves behind her husband, Dan, and three girls.

In her time as a vlogger, she shared many unique and beautiful experiences traveling with her family. She believed “you can take your kids everywhere,” encouraging her followers not to wait for specific circumstances to travel, especially with their kids.

“We’re so grateful for all the prayers and love that have buoyed us up in the last few days and that we know will continue to in the days ahead,” her family wrote.
