Man found dead at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park

KANAB — Kane County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue found a man dead in Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park on April 14. He had been reported overdue the day before.
According to Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Neal Mower, 67, bought a day pass to the state park on April 10 at approximately 11 a.m. On the morning of April 13, other park visitors notified authorities they hadn’t seen the man, but his vehicle had remained in the same place for several days.
After they were alerted, search and rescue crews began looking for clues about Mower’s location. They searched the vehicle but did not find anything unusual. Authorities also interviewed other campers.
Since Mower was from Ivins, Utah, officers from the Ivins Police Department checked his residence, attempting to find friends, family members, or neighbors who might have had information.
As they continued their search, Kane County dispatchers examined phone records in an attempt to see where Mower may have gone.

A Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was also dispatched from nearby St. George to assist. The search continued until it was dark outside, but was unsuccessful.
The next morning, crews continued their search, aided by the Bureau of Land Management’s Kanab Field Office.
According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, Mower was found dead approximately 1.8 miles from his vehicle.
His death is currently under investigation.
