SALT LAKE CITY — Police have made an arrest in two decades-old sexual assault and kidnapping cases that happened in Ogden.

Ogden police arrested Jerald Leroy McAdams, a convicted sex offender, in connection with two separate assaults and kidnappings that happened in 1994 and 1997.

Investigators told KSL that McAdams was recently extradited from Washington State, where he had been living, to Utah and is now in custody at the Weber County Jail.

A breakthrough in the case

According to police, McAdams’ DNA was recently matched to DNA evidence collected in the 1994 sexual assault and kidnapping of a 16-year-old girl near 26th Street and Eccles Avenue in Ogden.

Investigators say McAdams’ DNA  was entered into the National CODIS database following his conviction for sexual assault and kidnapping in Washington State in 1999, which resulted in a prison sentence. His DNA was collected while he was incarcerated.

Additionally, McAdams was charged with another Ogden-based sexual assault and kidnapping that occurred in 1997, but investigators said charges were dropped due to a procedural issue.

Ogden detectives traveled to Washington this month and arrested McAdams, with the help of local law enforcement.

Investigators say McAdams faces kidnapping and rape charges here in Utah in connection with the 1994 and 1997 cases.

“The Ogden City Police Department remains committed to pursuing justice for survivors and ensuring that those responsible for violent crimes are held accountable,” stated department press release.

The department declined to interview with KSL to avoid creating any conflicts with their ongoing investigation.

A request for tips

The Ogden City Police Investigations Bureau continues to look for anyone who may have encountered McAdams in Weber County between 1991 and 1998.

Investigators encourage anyone with information about the suspect or any other potential victims to call 801-629-8228 or email opdinvestigations@ogdencity.gov.
