OGDEN — The father responsible for the death of his 12-year-old son, Gavin Peterson, received the maximum sentence on Tuesday.

In a Second District Courtroom, Judge Camile L. Neider told 46-year-old Shane Peterson that he would spend at least 13 years in the Utah State Prison, with Neider suggesting life in prison.

Other Defendants Fates

The two other defendants, Gavin’s brother, Tyler Peterson, 21, and Shane Peterson’s girlfriend, Nichole Scott, 50, also pleaded guilty for their involvement in Gavin’s death.

Scott will be sentenced on May 12 on several felony charges, including first-degree felony murder and three counts of second-degree felony aggravated child abuse, intentional or knowing.

Due to Tyler Peterson’s mental condition, his sentencing has been delayed while he undergoes treatment. The court will review Tyler Peterson’s treatment on May 22.
