RIVERDALE — Riverdale Police are investigating the stabbing death of a 34-year-old woman who was found unresponsive in an apartment Thursday afternoon.
Riverdale Police Chief Casey Warren said Riverdale officers were dispatched to the Greenhill at Riverdale Apartment located near 4100 South and 300 West around 2:30 p.m. after a 911 call of an assault involving a possible stabbing.
When the officers arrived on scene, Warren said they found a woman severely injured with stab wounds.

“Once they gained entry inside the apartment, they located a victim that was injured. Officers and the Riverdale Fire Department responded, attempted lifesaving measures, and unfortunately weren’t able to resuscitate the victim, and she was pronounced deceased at the scene,” he said.
At that point, Warren said officers quickly turned their attention to the suspect, who had fled the apartment towards Riverdale Road and 700 West.
“Several agencies from across the county responded, including Morgan County, and ultimately located the suspect on Riverdale Road trying to flee the scene. He was taken into custody safely and is now being questioned by detectives,” said Warren.
Warren would not comment on the relationship between the victim and the suspect, who he said was approximately 39-years-old. Warren said detectives are still in the early stages of their investigation, and more details will be released when it is appropriate to do so.
“One thing I will say is there’s no threat to the public at this point. Everyone that was involved is in custody. So there’s no direct threat to the community at this point,” he said.
