Ogden prepares to play vital role in 2034 Winter Olympics

OGDEN — Weber County and the city of Ogden are working together to prepare for the 2034 Winter Olympics.
Although no events will take place directly in the city, Weber County Commissioner Jim Harvey said Snowbasin will host the Alpine events. He said officials are considering setting up large screens downtown to broadcast the games and are proposing events like a winter rodeo for visitors.
According to Harvey, officials have already secured approval to build a new interchange on 24th Street to improve traffic flow.
“That’s ready to go. It’s in planning now and likely will be under construction later this fall or into 2026. That’ll end up bringing all that traffic right downtown.”
Harvey said officials also received $3.8 million from the Legislature to revamp the Ice Sheet at Weber County Sports Complex.
“We want to be available to them, that if they need any kind of a backup or practice ice or whatever it is, (we can) help facilitate a successful Olympics for the entire state.”
Additionally, Ogden is preparing to welcome a large number of international visitors and serve as a host hub for those traveling between Salt Lake City and Snowbasin.
