Man fatally hit by SUV while crossing in Salt Lake City, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — A 46-year-old man was killed Thursday night after he was hit while attempting to cross State Street in Salt Lake City, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Police said the man was hit at 11:45 p.m., and a caller reported the crash on State Street near 500 South. The man was attempting to cross State Street outside the crosswalk north of the intersection, when an SUV hit him.
Despite efforts to save his life, the man died at the scene, according to SLCPD.
The driver of the SUV and its three passengers stayed at the scene after the crash, and were cooperating with officers, SLCPD said. Officers also spoke with a person who witnessed the crash.
“Based on the preliminary investigation, the SUV had a green light to travel through the intersection,” police said.
Detectives had not made any arrests or issued any citations involved with the crash as of Friday morning.
The man’s name was not immediately released.
