SARATOGA SPRINGS — Starting next week, drivers on the west side of Utah Lake will have one less road to go north and south. Saratoga Springs is closing Mountain View Corridor between Pony Express and Pioneer Crossing.
The city was already working on this section of the road to expand it from three to five lanes.
Saratoga Springs Spokesperson AnnElise Harrison said they ran into multiple conflicts with utilities, so they’re closing the road for five weeks starting Monday.
Harrison said the closure would speed up the expansion project by about a month. They’re now estimating it will be done by mid-July.
“The good news is the project should be almost completely finished by the end of that five-week period.”
Impacts near Mountain View Corridor
Harrison said they know this will cause all sorts of headaches for the people who live just off of Mountain View Corridor.
“The city is working with the construction crew to phase in access as quickly as possible.”
Harrison said they ran into problems with the water and electrical lines and the storm drains.
The drains were causing flooding at the corner of 1200 North and Mountain View Corridor. That’s because these drains have existed longer than the city has.
The city plans to rip out the old drain system and put in a new one. They’re prioritizing this during the closure so that people have another way to get to their homes while the rest of Mountain View Corridor is closed.
They are hopeful to have that portion of the project finished in the next two weeks. In the meantime people can get to the neighborhood on the west side using streets like Mount Saratoga Boulevard.
Harrison said the road will be open for this weekend’s Splash Days before they close it.
