SALT LAKE CITY — One person is in serious condition after a small tanker carrying oil fell on their car during a crash in Summit County.
Lt. Cam Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said a semi tanker struck an elk while traveling westbound on Interstate 80 on Thursday. The impact caused the tanker to overturn onto a car.
“The driver of that car was transported to the hospital in serious condition,” Roden said. “The driver of the semi truck was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.”
The crash caused oil to spill onto the roadway, closing westbound I-80 and diverting traffic onto U.S. 40.
According to Roden, a second car also struck the elk after the semi tanker.
