Auto-pedestrian crash in Provo leaves child dead, another injured

SALT LAKE CITY — A 2-and-a-half-year-old child is dead and a 4-year-old is in stable condition after an auto-pedestrian crash on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a press release from the Provo Police Department, the accident happened near 860 W Columbia Lane shortly after 1 p.m. The driver, identified as Nereyda Miranda, was planning to dispose of some trash bags that were on her vehicle’s windshield.
While on her way out of Brough Trailer Court, she struck two children who “stood stationary with their father by the side of the road while he was repairing a bike.”
The release states family members drove the two children to Utah Valley Hospital while Miranda stayed to cooperate with police. The 2-and-a-half year old died after being struck, while the 4-year-old received minor injuries.
Miranda was arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail for manslaughter on Tuesday evening.
The Provo Police Traffic Accident Team is continuing its investigation.
