19-year-old dies, 2 others injured in fiery head-on crash near Camp Williams

BLUFFDALE — A 19-year-old man was killed and two others were badly injured Wednesday in a crash near Camp Williams in Bluffdale.
Saratoga Springs and Bluffdale police responded to the crash after it was reported at approximately 3:17 p.m. near 17000 South and Redwood Road.
Sgt. Jesse Davis said a Chevrolet Cruz that was traveling southbound crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit a Toyota Rav4 head on. The Cruz then caught fire, and civilians on scene began to try to help free the two passengers inside.
When officers arrived, Davis said they began to help until fire officials got to the scene. The 19-year-old man, who had been driving the burning car, died at the scene.

The passenger of the burning car was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The driver and only occupant of the Toyota was also in serious condition and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, Davis said.
Davis said investigators with a major accident team were still working with forensics and witness statements to determine the cause of the crash.

At the time of the crash, KSL NewsRadio issued a traffic alert. Redwood Road was closed in both directions for hours until investigators could secure the scene and clear the debris.
