1 arrested after police chase ends in Tooele crash, police say

SALT LAKE CITY — One person was arrested Wednesday night after a police chase ended with a crash in Tooele, according to police.
Sgt. Ross Mableson with the Tooele Police Department said officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle at 2400 N. Main Street around 11:30 p.m., when the driver allegedly fled from police.
A probable cause statement for the incident said the car was driven by 27-year-old Riley Merril Olson. It said he fled officers at speeds exceeding 110 mph.
According to the statement, officers tried to pull Olsen over because his car had no license plate, and the officer believed the driver was “a fugitive with a board of pardons warrant.”
Mableson said the car proceeded to crash at the end of Pole Canyon Road after being chased by officers on state Route 36.
According to Mableson, there was a second person in the vehicle with the driver and both occupants fled on foot after the crash, only to be caught and apprehended by officers.
Olson reportedly told officers that he fled because he didn’t want to go back to prison. He was booked into jail while the second person in the car was taken to and released from the hospital.
