Suspect arrested after human remains found in remote Tooele County

SALT LAKE CITY — A man is under arrest and suspected of having committed multiple felonies, after human remains were found in a shallow grave in Tooele County.
The remains were found during the course of a multi-jurisdictional investigation into a missing man, Kevin Van Beuge, 60, who was reported missing by his family on Sunday.
The remains were positively identified as Kevin Van Beuge by the Utah State Medical Examiner’s office.
Beuge’s family reportedly told Herriman police that he’d been missing since early Saturday morning.
Police found a vehicle Beuge was known to use in Taylorsville, Utah. According to Herriman police, there were clues in the car.
It “contained blood evidence indicative of a violent altercation,” Herriman police wrote in a statement.
A suspect, Jeffrey Mauricio Lopez, 32, was arrested on Tuesday night and booked into Salt Lake County Jail.
The charges he is expected to face include aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery. All are 1st-degree felonies.
Lopez could also face charges of desecreation of a body, a 3rd degree felony.
Herriman police said an investigation continues.
