SALT LAKE CITY — A shelter-in-place was ordered in the Marble Hills subdivision in Tremonton early Friday after police said reports were made about a boyfriend allegedly holding a woman hostage in a home with a firearm.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Cade Palmer with the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said police responded just after 2 a.m. after an adult called from inside a home where a domestic violence assault was occurring, with a firearm involved.
Palmer said the domestic violence was between a boyfriend, 41-year-old Jeremy McIntyre and a woman.
Police said the situation started when McIntyre allegedly assaulted the woman with multiple people in the home and one person was “pistol whipped.”
“During the altercation (McIntyre) pistol whipped another adult in the home, physically strangled the female victim, and pointed a gun at the female victim and at himself,” Palmer said.
According to Palmer, adults in the home were then able to get ahold of the gun and proceeded to get everyone out of the house, except for the woman and McIntyre.
“(McIntyre) had obtained a second firearm and then barricaded him in the house with the victim and made threats towards law enforcement,” Palmer said.
McIntyre was called out of the house using a loud speaker and both McIntyre and the woman came out of the house, according to Palmer.
Palmer added that the woman didn’t need to be taken to the hospital. The shelter-in-place was lifted around 6:20 a.m. after McIntyre was taken into custody.
Other local police departments responded to the scene, along with the Cache County Sheriff’s SWAT and Box Elder SWAT.
