Snow, wind and rain brings road restrictions, crashes and wind damage to parts of Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Snow, wind and rain impacted the morning commute on Tuesday morning as a series of storms began to strike parts of Utah.

Traction laws were in effect for both Big Cottonwood Canyon (state Route 190) and Little Cottonwood Canyon (state Route 210.)

Closed roadways

The Wyoming Highway Patrol said westbound Interstate 80 near Lyman, Wyoming was closed after a semitruck rollover in the westbound lanes.

“Please be prepared to stop as troopers, local agencies, and emergency crews work to clear the road,” the highway patrol said. “We expect the interstate to be open again within the hour.”

The Uinta County Fire and Ambulance said emergency responders were on scene, but there was no word on how the semitruck driver was doing after the crash.

Road restrictions

After multiple crashes due to the snow, chains/4×4 were required for semitrucks on Highway 189 through Provo Canyon.

“Use caution, reduce speeds and expect significant travel times,” Utah Department of Transportation said.

Road restriction were also established on both eastbound and westbound Highway 40 in Wasatch County.

Drivers on Interstate 70 experienced slick road conditions at Ghost Rock where some vehicles spun out on the roadway.

Damages due to weather

Trees were reported to have fallen down after high winds struck Payson Memorial Park overnight.

High winds pushed two goats and their enclosure over a fence in Hooper. By the end of the night, the goat enclosure and both goats ended up in a horse pasture, and the horse shelter ended up without its cover.
