SALT LAKE CITY — An on-campus police officer at Brighton High School tackled and detained a non-student on Wednesday, just as classes were letting out for the day.
In an email sent to parents, the Canyons School District said the non-student was identified by Brighton staff. They reportedly did not have permission to be on the campus.
Canyons officials said when the person was approached by school staff, they tried to flee the area but were “quickly stopped.”
A search of the person’s belongings revealed a weapon, officials said in the email.
The person was taken into custody. “At no time was there any immediate threat to students or staff,” officials said.
