“As a retired principal and professor, it is a privilege for me to nominate Mrs Shelly Smith of Meadowbrook Elementary for this illustrious award. Over the years, teaching has taken Shelly to the international School in São Paulo, Brazil to several lucky schools in Utah. But first of all, Shelly is not only a beloved teacher, she is a practitioner. For years, she has studied and implemented new and razor sharp pedagogies that almost completely raise all her students’ reading proficiencies. Currently, she has rallied teams of teachers to happily implement the science of reading. Special and fun activities ( a king and queen court with royalty chairs and a parade) are imbedded within her daily instruction.. A visit with her principal would truly paint a picture of a woman who is adored by children and respected by parents and administrators. Shelly Smith is truly a phenom and an example to all in the teaching profession. She is deserving of this wonderful award.”
