“I am writing to enthusiastically nominate Ed Schirner, Automotive Technology teacher at Davis High School, for recognition in your KSL Teacher Feature.

Over the years, I have watched firsthand the impact Mr. Schirner has had, not just on my own family, but on countless students who have passed through his classroom and shop. Three of my four boys have had the opportunity to learn under his guidance, and the confidence they gained from his class has been nothing short of remarkable. This is a sentiment I have seen mirrored form countless Davis high Students sitting in my kitchen.

Mr. Schirner does far more than teach automotive skills. He creates an environment where students feel capable, valued, and motivated. He has a unique ability to connect with kids who might not otherwise see themselves as “academic,” and shows them through hands-on learning that they are intelligent, capable, and skilled. In doing so, he quietly teaches principles like math, problem-solving, and critical thinking in ways that truly stick.

What stands out most is the lasting impact he has on his students. His influence doesn’t end when the class is over or even when students graduate. He continues to be someone they respect, remember, and return to visit. That kind of lasting mentorship is rare, and it speaks volumes about the kind of teacher and person he is.

Mr. Schirner has helped instill not only technical knowledge, but pride in workmanship, confidence in ability, and a genuine love for learning a trade. Those are life-changing gifts, especially for teens finding their direction.

Teachers like Ed Schirner shape lives in ways that often go unrecognized, and I can’t think of someone more deserving of being highlighted and celebrated.
