Clearfield City corrects graffiti grammar while condemning the vandalism

SALT LAKE CITY — Clearfield City didn’t just condemn graffiti found throughout its city on Tuesday, it took the time on social media to correct the spelling errors made by the vandals responsible.

“Not only is graffiti illegal…,” the city said. “It’s also sometimes spelled wrong.”

In one photo, Clearfield corrected the word “toilet” in the sentence “Please install a squat tiolet.” Another grammar lesson the city gave was on the word “peanut butter,” which was misspelled as “penutbuter.”

While the graffiti was cleaned up by city crew members, Clearfield said it still takes time, money and resources away from other projects in the community.

The city’s police department said it had noticed an increase in graffiti around the area as well and asked parents to speak with their kids on the matter.

“Parents, please talk to the youth in your home to help reduce vandalism,” the police department suggested. “Even if they aren’t directly involved, they may know those participating in destructive behaviors.”

Any graffiti found can be reported to the city’s non-emergency police line at 801-525-2800 or on Clearfield City’s website. Police added that suspicious or criminal activity should be reported to 911.
