Fuel spill causes Salt Lake City road closures

SALT LAKE CITY – A large diesel spill shut down several streets in Salt Lake City on Sunday morning. Fire and police crews urged drivers to stay away from the area.

Salt Lake City Fire Department said crews responded to the spill near 400 West and 600 North, where a significant amount of diesel fuel leaked onto the road after a trailer detached from a truck around 8 a.m.

Salt Lake City Fire Captain Chad Jepperson said roughly 1,600 gallons of diesel spilled, and nearby storm drains were contaminated.

No injuries were immediately reported.

Drivers were asked to avoid the intersection and use alternate routes until the cleanup is complete.
