SALT LAKE CITY — Firefighters responded to a trailer house fire on Wednesday morning in Taylorsville.
Capt. Patrick Costin with the Unified Fire Authority said the fire was reported by a resident to have started around 7 a.m. in a bedroom in a house located along Sunset Peak Lane.
Costin said the resident was gardening outside when they saw smoke coming from a bedroom at the back of the house and called for help.
“(The resident) got a little bit of smoke inhalation but they were treated on scene,” Costin said.
A fire crew remained on scene after the flames were extinguished to make sure there wasn’t additional smoke or heat inside the home that could cause the fire to erupt once more.
‘He called us right away’
Costin commended the homeowner of the trailer house for calling 911 as soon as they saw smoke.
“As soon as you see smoke, give us a call,” Costin said. “The homeowner did a great thing. Didn’t try to get in there and take care of it himself. He called us right away.”
Costin said units were able to respond quickly after the call, giving firefighter the chance to confine the fire to that single bedroom.
In addition, Costin advised people to check their smoke detectors, test them regularly and switch the batteries out every six months or as needed.
Murray Fire Department also responded to the scene. The cause of the fire was still under investigation on Wednesday; however, Costin said he expected the residents who lived in the home to be temporarily displaced.
