Pilot, crewmember killed in helicopter crash while fighting Widemouth 2 fire

KANOSH, Utah — The pilot and crewmember on board a helicopter fighting the Widemouth 2 fire were killed in a crash on Friday, the National Interagency Fire Center confirmed.
Their identities were not released.
The agency confirmed those deaths as well as a third wildland firefighter who was fatally injured while operating a dozer in Oregon.
Helicopter crash kills 2
The Federal Aviation Administration said the Sikorsky S-64 crashed around 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2026. It went down southwest of Richfield in the Three Creeks Reservoir area. The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office described the scene as within the Widemouth 2 Fire’s boundaries, toward the southeast end.
The helicopter was assisting firefighting operations on the fire, according to Great Basin Team 2 officials.
