1,819 new COVID-19 cases in Utah, percentage for positive cases 29.2%

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah health officials report 1,819 additional positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the statewide total positive cases to 283,473.
Additionally, 4,802 Utahns have been tested for the virus. To date, 1,745,705 Utahns have been tested for COVID-19.
One of the newer numbers being reported by the Utah Department of Health (UDOH) is the number of vaccine doses that Utahns have received. Today, UDOH said that, in total, 47,382 vaccines have been administered in Utah.
UDOH takes care to point out that their “doses administered” data represents the number of doses that have been given to people and reported to them.

They said that once people in Utah begin getting the second dose of the vaccine, their wording will read “number of people vaccinated.”
Other trends related to COVID-19 cases in Utah
The rolling 7-day average for positive tests, a trend previously used by the Gov. Gary Herbert administration to gauge the state’s success in thwarting the virus, today is 2,652 per day. The rolling 7-day average for the percent of positive laboratory tests is 29.2%.
Another number watched closely by Utah health and government officials is the number of people currently hospitalized with COVID-19. This is a concern because the number of available beds, personnel, and hospital equipment is limited.
Today, 486 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.
Finally, UDOH reports that seven additional Utahns have died from COVID-19. That total is now 1,301.

How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus
COVID-19 coronavirus spreads person to person, similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:
- Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Don’t touch your face.
- Wear a mask to protect yourself and others per CDC recommendations.
- Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet).
- If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities).
- Get a flu shot.
