Bicyclist killed after being hit by a truck in Summit County

Hoytsville, Utah — A 72-year-old bicyclist was killed on Friday morning after she was struck by a pickup truck.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said the truck was pulling a double axel trailer and was turning into the driveway of a residence on West Hoytsville Road.
The bicyclist was traveling north, in the opposite direction of the truck, when Summit County officials say she was hit by the truck.
The 67-year-old man driving the truck reportedly told officials that he had looked for oncoming traffic before starting the turn into the driveway.
The woman’s husband was also on a bicycle and was traveling several feet behind her. He reportedly was able to avoid hitting the truck but crashed his bicycle and received minor injuries.
Summit County officials said the driver was traveling at “a low speed” when he hit the cyclist. The woman’s husband estimated they were traveling between 20 and 30 mph on their bikes.
Both cyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. The driver of the truck was issued a citation for failing to yield. Impairment of the driver is not suspected according to Summit County officials.
The name of the victim has not been released.
