Car carrying infant involved in overnight road rage shooting on SR 201

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating after they said a driver sideswiped then shot at another vehicle carrying three people, including an infant.
“The two vehicles were actually involved in a road rage incident,” said Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Colten Freckleton told KSL.
“During the incident, the two vehicles sideswiped each other, then … the other vehicle shot the victim at least six times.”
The vehicles were driving eastbound on SR 201, near 3200 West. The UHP said this shooting happened around midnight. A passenger was shot several times in the arm. The driver was wounded by flying debris in the car.
There were bullet holes in the passenger-side door near where the infant was seated, but the infant was not injured according to UHP.
“The suspect shot about six to seven times (from) an older model Jeep Cherokee with driver side damage,” Freckleton said. Later, Freckleton reported that the suspect vehicle is silver or white.
It is not known which driver initiated aggressive behavior.
“We’ve been seeing a lot of these popping up lately,” Freckleton added. “It feels like a weekly occurrence, these drive-bys,” he said.
On Nov. 30, 2021, police in Juab County reported a drive-by shooting on I-15. At that time, four vehicles were shot at as they drove between Nephi and Scipio. Two people were injured by those gunshots.
