Cosplay crowds pour into the FanX comic convention

The latest FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention is bringing fans to Salt Lake City.
Thousands of fans, some dressed as movie or TV characters, began filling the Salt Palace Convention Center.
A woman named Sandy from Idaho Falls made the trip to Salt Lake City for FanX.
Dressed in a steampunk costume, Sandy says this is her fifth or sixth comic convention.
“It’s the closest comic-con to come to and it’s an awesome one,” she says.
Sandy says she is looking forward to the guest appearances and the panels.
Many families were in attendance on the first day of FanX, including one local father’s nine-member troupe.
The father of the nonet, Damon Ricks, says it is their tenth time they have come to the event.
Ricks says that, even though they are from North Ogden, they get a hotel room in Salt Lake City and make the comic convention a mini vacation for the family.
He says right at the beginning they went to see Billie Piper of Doctor Who.
Piper is well-known for playing Rose Tyler, a traveling companion on “Doctor Who” running alongside David Tennant. Piper’s character is painfully remembered by some Whovians for being stranded on the beach of an alternate Earth as a result of some timey-wimey problems.
Ricks says he and his family picked up some souvenirs, including some lightsabers, an elegant weapon for a more civilized age, available from FanX’s Saber Forge.
Seeing Warwick Davis and Zachary Levi was on their family’s list.
Davis is a prolific actor in the sci-fi universe, including roles on Star Wars, the Harry Potter movies, The Chronicles of Narnia, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”, and “Willow.” Levi is known for his roles in “Shazam!,” “Tangled,” and the TV show “Chuck.”
The FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention will continue on Friday and Saturday. The next FanX will be September 5-7, 2019 at the Salt Palace Convention Center.
