COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah — Workers at the Cottonwood Heights Starbucks location won their union election with the National Labor Relations Board by a margin of 11-6. This made them the first store in Utah to elect Workers United International Union as their representative in the workplace.
Members of the organizing committee said, “We’re proud to win. We’re standing up. We’re showing the world we’re no longer cogs in a machine. Unions aren’t a band-aid for bad bosses but a fundamental expression of democracy at work. Democracy is hanging by a thread. Our vote today strengthens our country by setting the example. It’s a shame our corporate leaders see us as a threat.”
More than 200 Starbucks locations across the U.S. have started the unionization process. By the end of the year, many of these locations will finally have the opportunity to represent themselves as they fight to improve working conditions for all Starbucks employees.
The Cottonwood Heights Starbucks baristas invite community members and customers to visit the store and celebrate their victory!
