Cox becomes first sitting Utah governor to visit pride center

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox made history this week, becoming the first sitting Utah governor to visit the Utah Pride Center.
Pride Center Executive Director Rob Moolman says the center’s work over the last 30 or more years represents an important part of LGBTQIA+ life in Utah.
“To know that this is the first time ever that a sitting governor has been through the center and really just sat and listened and asked questions and learned and connected with the team there, it was an incredible, incredible moment,” Moolman said.
Governor visits Utah Pride Center
On the governor’s official Twitter account, he thanked the center for the tour as well as its work to make Utah “kinder & more inclusive.”

Earlier this month, Cox issued a declaration marking pride month in Utah.
“Here in Utah, we strive to create a culture of hope, love, understanding, and respect by celebrating our common humanity,” he tweeted at the time. In that declaration, he wrote, “we should all strive to be more accepting of LGBTQ+ members of our community.”
Moolman said he hopes for a day when a visit from the governor or a declaration about pride month in Utah is no big deal.
