Delta Air Lines announced it would suspend service at 10 airports to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure starting Wednesday. The airline said it would consolidate its operations in areas where Delta services in multiple airports.

These stations will remain closed until September 2020, with employees receiving pay protection options through the end of that period.

“The safety of our employees and customers remains our primary focus as we navigate these challenges together,” said Sandy Gordon, Senior Vice President – Domestic Airport Operations, in a statement. “By consolidating operations while customer traffic is low, we can allow more of our people to stay home in accordance with local health guidelines.”

Delta will also suspend service to Saskatoon International Airport beginning the same day. The airline said it will continue to accommodate customers whose travel will be impacted because of these suspensions.

The airline said it’s making these changes to ensure safety for its employees by minimizing exposure to the virus while providing access to travel.

“These changes will allow more of our frontline employees to minimize their COVID-19 exposure risk while ensuring convenient access to Delta’s network for those who must travel,” the company said in a statement. “Delta will continue providing essential service to impacted communities via neighboring airports.”
