Deseret News, Salt Lake Tribune miss printing due to power outage

WEST VALLEY CITY — A power outage means neither the Deseret News nor the Salt Lake Tribune can print and deliver their Sunday editions.
Subscribers will receive Sunday print editions of those papers late Sunday or on Monday instead, both organizations said.
A blown transformer knocked out power to the facility that prints both the Tribune and Deseret News Saturday. The facility also prints The New York Times for local subscribers.
“Rocky Mountain Power assured us they are working to restore power as quickly as possible, but it could be a lengthy delay,” said Brent Low, president and CEO of Newspaper Agency Company.
The utility deployed extra work crews to help speed up repairs, Low said, but did not immediately know what caused the blown transformer.
The Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune have long shared printing facilities through a joint operating agreement. Subscribers to the papers who have email addresses on file will receive a link to digital replicas of the print papers.
“We’re grateful that both the Deseret News and Salt Lake Tribune have vibrant digital news operations and readers can access information at their websites,” Low said.
