President Russell M. Nelson funeral plans announced

SALT LAKE CITY — The funeral for President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be held at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 12 p.m. MDT.

According to a press release from the church, the Conference Center will open at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and attendees must be seated by 11:30 a.m. Tickets will be required to attend the funeral service, which can be reserved starting on Thursday, Oct 2 at 10 a.m. MDT. 

Services will be broadcast globally on the KSL NewsRadio app and on KSL 5 at 12 p.m.

The public can also pay their respects in person the day before on Monday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

A television special from the church, ‘A Tribute to Russell M. Nelson,’ will be broadcast on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. MDT.

President Nelson died peacefully in his home shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday. He had led the church as president for nearly eight years.

During his time as president of the church, President Nelson emphasized building new temples, calling for peace and utilizing the proper name of the church. Before serving in the church, he worked as a heart surgeon and helped develop an artificial heart and lung machine small enough to function in an operating room to help patients.

President Nelson is survived by his second wife, Wendy Watson Nelson, eight of his ten children he had with his late wife, Dantzel White Nelson, 57 grandchildren, 168 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
