Gov. Herbert to lower flags for Ogden officer shot, killed in line of duty

Gov. Gary Herbert announced the lowering of both the American flag and the Utah state flag for Saturday in honor of the Ogden police officer who was shot and killed.
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Gov. Gary Herbert announced the lowering of both the American flag and the Utah state flag on Saturday in honor of the Ogden police officer who was shot and killed Thursday, May 28.
The officer, Nathan Lyday, was killed in the line of duty responding to a domestic violence call. Lyday was shot on-scene and transported to McKay Dee Hospital — where he was pronounced dead later that day.
“Today, I join Utahns everywhere in saluting Officer Nathan Lyday,” the governor said in a statement. “He was an outstanding public servant, a dedicated husband, and a hero. We are humbled by the love Officer Lyday showed, the service he rendered and the sacrifice he made.”
Flags will be flown half-staff at all state facilities and public grounds from sunrise to sunset. Businesses and Utah residents are encouraged to also lower flags in honor of Lyday.
The Ogden officer will also be laid to rest Saturday.
“Jeanette and I send our deepest condolences, support and prayers to Nathan’s wife Ashley, to his parents Andrew and Nancy, and to the entire Lyday family,” Gov. Herbert said.
