MILLCREEK, Utah —The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office has paused the search for a missing hiker in the Porter Fork area of Millcreek Canyon.
The man, identified only as a 38-year-old male, was reported missing when he didn’t return from a hike in Millcreek Canyon Sunday, according to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Alran Bennett said the hiker was reported missing before noon on Sunday after he had been hiking alone. Bennett said he had been hiking in the area of Porter Fork Trail, and had been missing for over 24 hours as of 11 a.m. Monday.
Search and rescue crews were deployed Sunday evening, and efforts were halted when it became dark. Crews were back out searching the snow-packed mountain at 7 a.m. Monday, including the Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter, which was on standby until weather permitted it to be used. Drones had been deployed and were expected to be searching all day Monday.
Bennett said snowmobilers were searching in the backcountry and teams were being cautious of avalanche danger.
The man’s name or description was not provided.
